Our physics teacher loved doing the iron filings experiment, bit of paper, magnet, iron filings. He would explain about poles attracting and repelling.
“Right, you lot. Place your two bar magnets near each other with opposite poles, North to South, facing. Sprinkle the filings and you’ll see the lines bridge the gap between the two magnets. That demonstrates attraction.”
